Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand and analyse demographic and social problems of contemporary societies, and to depict le links between demographic and social variables and trends in rich and poor countries.

to be able to apply demographic models to population data in different social and economic contexts. To be able to understand demographic issues of contemporary societies, in rich and poor countries.
Prerequisites
Prerequisite: Statistica I. In addition are welcome basic knowledges of statistics (regression models) and demography.
Teaching Methods
Face-to-face lectures and debates on some articles by students
Type of Assessment
Oral exam composed by three questions. Each question scores 1/3 of the final mark.
Attending students will be invited to participate actively during the lessons by performing presentations in class. Participation in this activity allows between 0 to 3 points increase to the final examination grade.

Demographic transition and global trend of populations: population growth, fertility, mortality, nuptiiality, families, migration, in a comparative perspective between rich and poor countries.
Recent trends of the Italian population in the European context. Population ageing, measures, causes and consequences in Italy. Migration.
Recent trends in family behaviours. The youth and the transition to adulthood, fertility, marriage and cohabitation. Fertility and gender policies. Subjective well-being and familiy changes.
